After a vigorous candidate endorsement process, the Greater Lansing Association of REALTORS® (GLAR) has announced endorsed candidates for the 2021 local elections.

This year, GLAR is endorsing Andy Schor for Lansing Mayor, Peter Spadafore for Lansing City Council At-Large, Jeffrey Brown for Lansing City Council At-Large, Elvin Caldwell for Lansing City Council 4th Ward, Chuck Grigsby for East Lansing City Council four year term, Adam DeLay for East Lansing City Council four year term and Ron Bacon for East Lansing City Council two year term.

To be endorsed, all candidates must fill out a questionnaire specifically regarding real estate issues. Then candidates are interviewed by GLAR members regarding their commitment to their communities and discuss issues related to real estate. A committee decided based on questionnaire answers and the interview process which candidates to endorse. 

GLAR encourages everyone to do their part and register to vote if you haven’t already. Early absentee voting has already begun, but the general election, to vote in-person is November 2. If you need to register to vote you can find information at: https://mvic.sos.state.mi.us/Home/RegisterToVote

Below you will find more information on each candidate endorsed by the Greater Lansing Association of REALTORS®:

Andy Schor for Mayor of Lansing:

Schor is the current mayor and was elected to his first term in 2017. He served five years in the Michigan House of Representatives and a decade on the Ingham County Board of Commissioners. He has a bachelor’s degree in political science and history from the University of Michigan. He also serves on executive boards for the U.S. Conference of Mayors, Capital Area United Way, Lansing Promise, Accelerator of America and the state’s Manufactured Housing Commission.

Peter Spadafore for Lansing City Council At-Large:

Spadafore is the current Lansing City Council President. He was elected to the Lansing City Council in 2017. He is former president of the Board of Education at the Lansing School District. He is a graduate of Michigan State University, where he studied social relations and policy. He is a lobbyist and deputy executive director for the Michigan Association of Superintendents and Administrators.

Jeffery Brown for Lansing City Council At-Large:

Brown serves on the executive committee of the Ingham County Community Health Centers and the city’s Human Relations and Community Services Advisory Board. He has several college degrees, including a doctorate in Ministry Christian Leadership from Kingdom University International Bible College. Brown is also a public speaker and author.

Elvin Caldwell for Lansing City Council 4th Ward:

Caldwell is a licensed real estate agent, as well as a licensed lobbyist, outreach coordinator and legislative consultant at Fraser Consulting, a subsidiary of the full-service Lansing-based law firm of Fraser Trebilcock. Caldwell serves as the board secretary of the capital Area Housing Partnership and was featured on the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce’s latest “Ten Over the Next 10” list.

Chuck Grigsby for East Lansing City Council Four Year Term:

Grigsby was a professional athlete, playing professional basketball, but mostly focusing on mixed martial arts. Prior to his athletic career, he worked in the Iowa Attorney General’s Office as an investigator for victims of violent crime. Since moving to East Lansing in 2016, Grigsby has completed the East Lansing’s Emerging Leaders Program, was elected Chair of the City’s Human Rights Commission and has also been serving as elected Chair of the Study Committee on an Independent Police Oversight Commission.

Adam DeLay for East Lansing City Council Four Year Term:

DeLay is a graduate of Michigan State University. He is a former Lansing Township Trustee and has worked in the Michigan Senate, as well as U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow and Governor Whitmer. Currently, he works as a Legislative Analyst with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and serves as a member of the East Lansing Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission. 

Ron Bacon for East Lansing City Council Two Year Term:

Bacon was appointed to the Council in August 2020, following the resignation of two Council members. He has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and sociology and a master's degree in organizational leadership from Saginaw Valley State University. He currently works for Genentech, a biotechnology company. He also is an assistant coach for the East Lansing varsity football team. Bacon serves as chair of the MLK Commission of Mid-Michigan and as a board member for the East Lansing Education Foundation and was previously the Chair of East Lansing’s Human Rights Commission.
